Our Services
Now a medical specialty accepted by the American Board of Medical Specialties, lifestyle medicine revolves around addressing the behavioral and psychological root causes of disease.
It has long been stated that the Western lifestyle, though conquering many problems related to pathologic microbes, malnutrition, and trauma, has exposed us to an increasing level of chronic disease pursuant to the way in which we live. Recent Harvard studies for example, have revealed how lack of social engagement, or loneliness, is as detrimental to cardiovascular disease as smoking. It is tremendously difficult for the layperson to know just how, and what to change about their lifestyle, and where investing energy may yield the maximal result.
Every individual is unique in their needs, goals, and demands leaving blanket prescriptions vague and difficult to implement. Gladly, in the last several decades an emerging branch of science has studied this very problem. Lifestyle Medicine is the practice of understanding the motivational and practical concerns regarding changing one's behavior to increase health and vitality. Through lifestyle medicine, we focus on encouraging healthful behaviors such as mindfulness, nutrition, exercise, sleep hygiene, social engagement, and goal setting. Whether it is in eliminating unhealthy behaviors, or developing strategies to implement healthy ones, it is our interest to bring about quality of life improvements that will also serve to increase vitality and resilience to disease.
